He was born and brought up around the burners in the Horta district of Barcelona and is the heir to a saga of restaurateurs since 1896. His family ran a popular house of meals, in which he learned the traditional Catalan recipes from his great-grandmother and his mother.
Over the years, Carles Gaig has developed the culinary wisdom of his family through his personal cuisine that has gained him great recognition, including that of holding a Michelin Star since 1993.
At the Restaurante Gaig in the Mercer Hotel Torre del Remei, the chef continues to opt for tradition and cuisine that can be identified with the territory, in which the produce plays the main role.
The chef culminates his professional career in the Torre del Remei and both him and his wife and Maître D', Fina Navarro, have a special feeling because it was the first place they chose to spend their first couple vacation: “Doing the work that you like in an environment where you feel connected is a gift.”
